About us
The Friends of the Mint House (UK registered charity no. 1197900) is a new, dynamic charity dedicated to the purchase, conservation and opening of a free visitor centre in Pevensey. We like to partner and work with local organisations, whether they are heritage-led or businesses. Our committee and advisory teams consist of heritage and charity professionals, conservation and historic building experts, historians, archaeologists, academics and fundraising specialists. We are passionate about conservation not just of the building, but the environment and how this has informed the history of the area. Continuing in the same way, we would like to trailblaze in eco-heritage throughout this project, using only eco-friendly methods. Much has improved in environmentally-friendly heritage techniques over the past few years, and we welcome these. The project and its trustees are committed to the environment in all matters - from recyclable children's crafts to compostable bin bags to ecologically focused exhibitions. Community is important to us, and we encourage everyone to join in, whether you are an individual, part of a group, or a place of education.
Our philosophy
Although the Mint House is not open to the public as a museum yet, we hold regular free open days, events, charity quizzes, education and craft days for both children and adults. We are passionate in our belief that our heritage is for everyone and we make a conscious effort to be inclusive and accepting.
